Circular Steel Grating RFQ: Drawing and Photo Checklist

A circular, ring, sector or curved steel-grating request is easier to quote when the buyer sends one clear field set instead of a photo with no reference. The first package does not need to prove a final design. It should show what shape is required, how the pieces are divided, where they bear, which openings matter and which values still need confirmation. If only a photograph is available, send it as inquiry context and label every unknown for follow-up.

Start with the finished shape

State whether the required area is a full circle, ring, sector, arc or another curved boundary. Add the units used on the drawing and identify the reference point or center. If the shape is built around an opening, mark the opening separately from the outside perimeter. A rough sketch can start the conversation, but quotation review is safer when the finished boundary is traceable to a drawing, measurement or dimensioned markup.

Do not infer a diameter, radius, angle or panel size from a photograph. Ask the buyer to confirm those values on the controlled drawing or in the RFQ schedule.

Mark the reference and orientation

Curved pieces can look complete while still missing the information needed to orient them. Show the center or reference axes, the datum used for angles, the bearing direction and every known support line. If the bearing direction changes between pieces, mark it per piece rather than assuming all segments are identical.

The orientation mark is a coordination field, not a structural approval. The responsible designer must confirm the final arrangement, support condition and project requirements.

Divide the shape into traceable pieces

List the number of panels or segments and give each piece a stable mark. Show joint locations, radial breaks, straight-to-curved transitions and any removable or access piece. Match the same mark in the drawing, quantity schedule, packing list and later questions so that a quotation does not combine values from different pieces.

Treat photos as context, not measurement records

A useful photo should answer one named question. Send an overview that identifies the curved area, then a closer view of the feature or reference being discussed. Keep project names, people, drawing numbers and customer identifiers private unless the owner gives written permission to publish them.

The approved QY image used with this guide shows stacked circular grating panels as product-form context. It does not prove diameter, material, tolerance, loading, project fit or a completed order. A customer drawing or screenshot may show useful field categories, but it does not become a QY specification merely because a value is visible.

Separate the RFQ fields from approval decisions

Send the following with the inquiry when available:

• finished shape, units and reference center or axes;
• outside and inside boundaries, openings and penetrations;
• bearing direction and known support lines for each piece;
• segment or joint locations, piece marks and quantities;
• perimeter, banding, nosing or removable-edge requirements;
• drawing revision, unresolved fields and the person responsible for approval.

If a value affects performance, compliance, structural suitability, tolerance or acceptance, request the responsible controlled document and qualified review. A photograph can accompany that record, but it should not silently replace it.
