Welded & Woven Mesh Guide

Choose welded wire mesh or woven wire mesh by construction, opening stability, flexibility, roll or panel format, finish and packing.

Welded mesh Woven mesh Selection guide

RFQ Preparation

Choose welded or woven mesh before confirming dimensions.

Welded and woven wire mesh can look similar in RFQ photos, but they behave differently in stiffness, opening stability, flexibility, cutting, edge treatment and packing. Confirming construction first helps prevent wrong pricing and wrong production format.

Use the right Wire Mesh resource page Start with Specification Guide for general RFQ structure. Use Opening & Wire Diameter Notes for aperture, pitch and mesh count details.

Quick choice: welded mesh or woven mesh?

Welded wire mesh panel with stable openings
Choose welded mesh when

Stable openings and panel rigidity matter.

  • Machine guards, cages, trays, fence infill and protection panels
  • Panel format, edge wire, spot welding or frame preparation is required
  • Openings should remain square or rectangular after cutting
Woven wire mesh roll with flexible construction
Choose woven mesh when

Flexibility, screening or mesh count drives the request.

  • Screening, filtration, sieving, insect mesh or flexible roll supply
  • Plain weave, crimped weave or stainless woven construction is specified
  • Roll width, roll length and mesh count are more important than panel stiffness

Welded vs woven mesh selection matrix

Selection point Welded wire mesh Woven wire mesh RFQ details to confirm
Construction Intersecting wires are welded at contact points for stable openings. Wires are woven over and under each other, often plain weave or crimped weave. State welded panel, welded roll, woven roll, plain weave or crimped weave.
Opening stability Better for fixed square or rectangular openings after cutting. More flexible, but openings can shift depending on weave and tension. Confirm clear opening, pitch, mesh count and acceptable tolerance.
Format Usually panels, sheets or rolls depending on wire diameter and opening. Usually rolls for fine mesh; heavier woven mesh can also be supplied in panels. Send roll width/length, panel size, stack height and packing request.
Application Guards, cages, fence infill, trays, protection panels and fabricated mesh parts. Screening, filtration, sieving, flexible mesh, insect mesh and wrapped installations. Describe stiffness, flexibility, drainage, airflow or screening needs.
Finish and packing Galvanized, stainless, PVC coated or powder coated; panel pallet packing. Stainless, galvanized or specialty material; roll bag, carton or pallet packing. Confirm finish, edge protection, label marks, destination and export packing.

Better RFQ wording examples

Welded panel example

Welded wire mesh panel, 50 x 50 mm clear opening, 4.0 mm wire after galvanizing, panel 1000 x 2000 mm, edge wire, hot-dip galvanized, 500 pcs.

Welded roll example

Welded mesh roll, 25 x 25 mm opening, 2.0 mm galvanized wire, roll width 1.2 m, roll length 30 m, 80 rolls, woven bag and pallet packing.

Woven roll example

Woven stainless wire mesh, 10 mesh, 0.5 mm wire, plain weave, roll width 1.0 m, roll length 30 m, 20 rolls, carton packing.

Checklist cards for welded and woven mesh RFQs

Construction

  • Welded, woven, plain weave or crimped weave
  • Panel, roll or cut-to-size pieces
  • Edge type, frame or cutout request

Dimensions

  • Opening size, pitch or mesh count
  • Wire diameter before or after coating
  • Width, length, panel size and tolerance

Application

  • Fence, cage, guard, screen or filter
  • Indoor, outdoor, wet or corrosive exposure
  • Stiffness, airflow, visibility or flexibility need

Common selection mistakes

  • A photo is sent without saying welded or woven construction.
  • Opening is confirmed, but wire diameter and tolerance are missing.
  • Roll format is requested for a product that should ship as panels.
  • Outdoor exposure is not stated before choosing finish.
  • Edge treatment and cut-to-size requirement are not marked.
  • Packing marks are missing for multi-size mesh shipments.
