Opening & Wire Diameter Notes

Confirm clear opening, center-to-center pitch, wire diameter, coating thickness and tolerance before requesting wire mesh pricing.

Clear opening Center pitch Wire diameter Mesh count

RFQ Preparation

Avoid confusion between opening size, pitch and wire diameter.

Wire mesh RFQs slow down when buyers only send a mesh count or a photo. This page separates clear opening, center-to-center pitch, wire diameter, tolerance and coating so the factory can quote the correct mesh.

Use the right Wire Mesh resource page Start with Specification Guide for general RFQ structure, then use this page for aperture, pitch, wire diameter and tolerance details.

Opening terms buyers should separate

Inside gap

Clear opening

Inside-to-inside space between wires. This is often the most practical dimension for drainage, screening or protection openings.

Example: 50 x 50 mm clear opening
Center distance

Center-to-center pitch

Distance from one wire centerline to the next wire centerline. It includes the wire diameter.

Example: 55 mm pitch with 5 mm wire gives about 50 mm opening
Per inch

Mesh count

Used more often for fine woven mesh. It means the number of openings or wires per inch, depending on local wording.

Example: 10 mesh needs wire diameter too
Core or coated

Wire diameter

Confirm whether diameter is before coating, after coating or a nominal wire gauge. Coating can change the finished opening.

Example: 4.0 mm core wire, 5.0 mm after PVC coating

Common opening and wire diameter reference

Product type Common RFQ range Details to confirm Related page
Welded wire mesh panels Wire 3-6 mm; openings such as 50 x 50 mm, 50 x 100 mm, 75 x 75 mm or project drawing. Clear opening vs pitch, panel size, edge wire, galvanizing or powder coating. Welded & Woven Mesh Guide
Woven wire mesh rolls Fine mesh count, aperture in mm, or wire diameter from about 0.5-3 mm depending on use. Mesh count definition, roll width, weave style, stainless or galvanized material. Woven Wire Mesh
Fence or guard mesh Wire 4-8 mm; rectangular or square opening by project layout and security requirement. Panel tolerance, post spacing, coating color, clips and gate compatibility. Welded Mesh Fence
Expanded or perforated sheet Use SWD/LWD/strand for expanded metal, or hole diameter/pitch/open area for perforated sheet. Do not describe sheet products only as wire mesh; send pattern, sheet thickness and sheet size. Expanded & Perforated Notes

Better RFQ wording examples

Welded panel example

Welded wire mesh panel, 50 x 50 mm clear opening, 4.0 mm wire after galvanizing, panel 1000 x 2000 mm, hot-dip galvanized, 500 pcs.

Woven roll example

Woven wire mesh roll, 10 mesh, 0.5 mm stainless steel wire, roll width 1.2 m, roll length 30 m, plain weave, 20 rolls.

Coated mesh example

PVC coated mesh, 4.0 mm core wire and 5.0 mm finished diameter, 50 x 100 mm pitch, green coating, panels with edge wire.

Checklist cards for mesh opening RFQs

Aperture

  • Clear opening or pitch
  • Square, rectangular or diamond
  • Opening direction if required

Wire

  • Diameter or wire gauge
  • Before or after coating
  • Material and tensile need

Format

  • Roll, sheet or panel
  • Width, length and tolerance
  • Edge wire or framed edge

Common missing details

  • Only mesh count is sent, but wire diameter is not confirmed.
  • Opening size is listed without saying clear opening or pitch.
  • Coating is selected, but before or after coating diameter is unclear.
  • Panel dimensions are given without cutting tolerance.
  • Roll width is missing, causing freight and packing uncertainty.
  • Application is not stated, so stiffness and finish cannot be reviewed.
